Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Watched this on the ITV catch up ....
Very well made with a great cast but wasn’t aware of the whole story incl the Major’s wife and brother in law having previously been on the show and the whole bonkers ‘quiz community’ and their strategies to get on tv.
And the Major was the least convincing quiz winner in history .... Craig David? Never heard of him but will risk thousands and pick him as my answer.
Obviously guilty as hell. Wasn’t he?

Connection with West Ham?
Question he answered for £125,000 was ...
What does the F in Carlton F Cole stand for?

Spoiler Alert as I haven't as yet seen it but how on earth did Teclan Whittock, or whatever his name was know what the answers were himself? If by phone (or was it too early for that) how did he sit there browsing the web with no-one noticing?

Good programme.

Not sure if guilty or not. When this was a stage show, the audience had guilty/not guilty keypads. After act one, every audience voted guilty. After act 2, every audience (bar one) voted not guilty.

Mr Ingram was also convicted of insurance fraud. Which makes me think he may have been pre - disposed towards dishonesty.

Apparently "cough"/audio technology has advanced rapidly in recent years, which the Ingrams may use to launch an appeal.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
There was definitely coughing by Wittock and on one he didn’t know Mrs Ingram in the audience took over.
When you see him answering the questions such as the Craig David one he obviously doesn’t have a scooby and is going down one track then suddenly flips in a very odd way.
The one about Haussmann designing Paris where he is focusing on Berlin then changes to Paris for now particular reason when playing for a very large sum just looks bizarre.
Not sure if the stage play is the same but this finishes with the defence summing up and don’t think you see much or any of the prosecutions. Was reading that THAT was very convincing in the real trial.
Maybe in the stage play they wanted to have people switch from guilty to not guilty as a talking point.
The playwright behind the original , James Graham , is a very talented bloke. Mid 30’s I think

Really enjoyed the programme.....it was definitely sympathetic towards the Ingrams.
For me, one of the most damning pieces of evidence of their guilt was the 4 pagers......in a quiz with 4 possible answers

Yes, agree devon and the other bit was arguing in the dressing room after they had just won a million pounds!

Also, the phone call from Mrs Ingram to Whitlock, the night before Mr Ingram, was in the chair for the second time.

This is the Craig David question, her fake coughing is hilarious.

Respect to Michael Sheen who always pulls off a great acting impersonation.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
After watching actual footage Ingram would have to be an incredible actor if he was cheating. And the wife's coughs were hardly conclusive.

For me, it's not proven beyond doubt, so not guilty.

And what was the judge so lenient in sentencing? That was never explained.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
Was this really in the public interest to prosecute the Ingrams and the other bloke? ITV did very well out of it, didn't pay the cheque, bit of a stich up really!

Not sure that clip proves anything tbh

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
ITV couldn’t really justify not paying out if they didn’t inform the police.
And obviously the Ingrams would have sued for the money otherwise.
Must admit I was aware of the coughing story but couldn’t recall all the stuff about Mrs Ingram and the brother in law being contestants and all the conniving by the ‘quiz community’ to get on the show.
Understand in later years they changed from the straight phone in entry to also interviewing people to weed out the professionals and increasing the ‘diversity’.
Was interesting to see the behind the scenes stuff where they knew these cheats were trying to take advantage

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
It's the CPS who make the decision to start proceedings, I just can't see it was in the public interest and was a complete waste of taxpayers money!

Interestingly, I wonder if the Ingrams were paid anything for this latest drama on them?

And what was the judge so lenient in sentencing?

First offences? Non violent crime? Or judge not certain he agreed with the verdict?

Didn't realise Mr Ingram was a member of MENSA.

Re: Quiz ... the ITV version of coughing & Who Wants To Be A Millionaire
There was a documentary on this and there were people in the audience and on the panel that knew they were cheating.
They showed footage of when he won the money and it clearly shows two people on the panel just sitting there and not clapping.
Wittock even asked a fellow panelist the answers to two questions to help Ingram.
